Drawing - Dimension Options - Click hell

Hello,

is somehow possible to make dimension adjustment less tedious and time consuming?

  • 50 % of my dimensions needs to switch"Arrowheads inside" manually.
= Right click on the dimension + Select Options + Select Arrowheads inside
    • If it's on circle 100 % of them needs to be set with Leader from center
= Right click on dimension + Select Options + Select Leader from center
  • 75 % of my diameter dimensions are created by selecting Axis and edge
= Before placement (OR esc and start over): Right click + Select Dimension Type + Select Diameter
    • 90 % of them needs to be with full dimensional line
=Right click on dimension + Select Options + Select Full Dimension Line

This is clicking hell!!!

I already have some Global shortcuts (created by external program) to achieve first point. But still...

Is there some way how to create Button or better Keyboard shortcut to switching these options without soooo many clicks?

Thanks.

You likely just need to adjust your dimension styles in the style and standard editor..

Have you tried that?

Can you post an example drawing(include ipt file please too)?

Could just be needing to adjust settings like..

Arrowheads inside..

What setting do you have for "Arrowhead Placement" in your styles?

This also has your diameter settings there too..

This is my style setting:

inv-dim-styles.png

It's OK. For what is shown there.

This is why I need it so often:

  • Lot of my dimensions are in Section views and text need to be moved outside hatched area = Text is not inside Extension lines = Arrowheads need to be outside too.
  • I'm using section views with multi-segment section line = Diameters here needs to be created by selecting axis and edge, but also need to be visible full dimension line.
  • Circa half of circles is small and dimension text have to be outside =  Arrowheads need to be outside too.

In these cases it's OK:

But there is another not so small portion of cases: 😞

@j.pavlicek,

To add to @mcgyvr 's response, you could set up different dimensions styles the the different dimensions you do. That way when you go to create the dimension you can select the style you are after before placement. Should save some clicks.

I thought that you would be able to swap the arrowheads by selection a style with the option toggled, but it looks like that is set on placement and doesn't switch after that.

You can also copy properties of one dimension to another.

I set up one type of each style I want in a drawing and then copy the properties to all desired dimensions.

You have to be careful not to accidently select one you don't want to change.

Arrowheads have easy solutions elsewhere (meaning outside IV). Click on the arrowhead and drag it where it should be, inside or outside.  Click, hold, drag - no fuzz. Similar with radius vs diameter. Any such dimension clicked will activate a button on the toolbar that acts like a switch. A no brainer since both are the same parameter, bottom line.

Can you explain with a screencast please, because it's not a no-brainer for me.
