Dimension Input Box not displaying correctly.

I am using Inventor 2019 and I cannot seem to get the dimension input box to display properly when manually typing in the numbers.  This happens on both x and y dimension boxes.

I have not had this problem with previous versions of inventor.

Attached is a screenshot depicting the "closed" box.  In the picture I have input the dimensions already but they cannot be seen. Is this a setting issue I am missing or a glitch for 2019?  Thank you!dimension problem.jpg

What do you mean by "Displaying properly"?  The value you are imputing is not registering?

Are you up to date with the latest service packs?

Has this worked at all with 2019 or just this specific model?

Hi Cadmanto,

When I input the dimensions the box “collapses” making it impossible to see what my inputs are while typing. Once I press enter, the dimensions display what I entered, assuming I entered the correctly.

I have attached screen shots in order of operations. This “collapse” happens on any type of 2d sketch that I do, box, circle, line, etc.

This has only happened in 2019. I have used 2014 and 2017 previously and this was not an issue with those years.

Installed on my computer is 2019.3 Update version 23.30.27800.0000
With HSM Ultimate Version 6.4.1.16922

Try the Inventor reset tool for kicks and see if it fixes this.

I just tried the inventor reset tool and that did not solve the problem.  Still doing the same thing.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Thank you again for your help!

I personally have not seen this before.

Is there anyone else in your department using Inventor to compare?

Hate to say this, but have you thought about doing a clean uninstall and reinstalling the software?

Unfortunately, I have no one else to compare this to.  My next step was to uninstall and reinstall.  I was hoping to avoid that, but that's what I am going to do next.

Will I need to wipe the registry keys?  How do I do a full / clean uninstall?

Thank you again for all your help.

I don't blame you.  I would hate to do that as well.

Here is from the help file on the clean uninstall.

I just did a clean install of 2019 Inventor Pro and 2019 HSM Ultimate.  I am still getting the same "collapsed" dimension display when manually entering dimensions.  I wonder if anyone else is having this problem and just do not care.

Is there a way to send log files to Autodesk for a potential solution or hotfix down the road?

Hi! We have another user reporting the exact same behavior a few weeks ago. Something was set wrong. Try a few things and see if it helps.

1) Make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and update graphics driver. And, also update 3D Connexion device driver if you have one.

2) Is this one the second monitor?

3) What is the screen resolution and DPI setting?

4) Try disable all Add-Ins (restart Inventor and go to Tools -> Add-Ins -> unload all). Does it work now?

5) Go to View -> User Interface -> share the settings there.

Many thanks!

Sorry John,  I did not see your reply until today.

1)  I am up to date on Windows 10 Pro my current version is version 1809 amd64 2019-03

-------   My Graphics card is an Nvidia Quadro P5200 and drivers are up to date

2) This is not on a second screen.  This is on a mobile workstation (main / only screen)

3) My screen resolution is 3840 x 2160 and the scaling is set to 250% (see screen shot below)

4) I tried disabling/unloading add ins and that did not solve my problem.  (see screen shots below)

5) See attached screen shot for User Interface Settings.

John,

I did not mention in my previous post that after doing all your recommendations I am still having the same problem.

If you switch to 100% text scaling does that fix it?

No changing to 100% scaling does not fix it.  I even tried going to a lower resolution 1920 x 1080 which is the lowest this screen will go and that did not solve the problem either.

In the case that you see an empty box, or "m", if you press the LEFT arrow key to move the caret to the left, will the box show something different?

No the box still stays "collapsed" when I type.  For example when I type "12 mm" I cannot see that until I press enter.  If I type "12.1234567890 mm" the box expands but I cannot see the beginning numbers.  See screen shots.

Finally I found this post! I had to type this into google to find this: "inventor sketch type number box too small dimension input can't see" Most of the posts were unrelated things.

Anyways, I've seen this a few times in the past with my coworkers. Not sure of the cause or the solution... But I'll give some ideas just in case it may help. (And yes I don't think people post about this b/c they can't find out how to use delay screen captures.)

My current coworker just had a an issue with his keyboard holding down a button or buttons on his keyboard causing hotkeys to be pressed or something. He started a new drawing and everything he pressed caused his Inventor to change all his settings. So I'm pretty sure it's a setting somewhere. But we can't figure it out. As another possible solution: In other modeling programs, you could force the visual display size of this item in a .ini file hidden in the depths a deep dark obscure folder that no one could normally find... I'm just not sure if Inventor has anything like this?

Another possible solution is to close everything, add a monitor and make it your main display and see if it changes...

If that doesn't work, select the program on your desktop, try the right click, properties, compatibility, DPI settings... (same trick for Vault)... I think this was a solution once but I'm a bit foggy due to those coworkers not being around anymore.

Inventor: Model States is not a replacement for iParts / iAssemblies. It does not have all the same features yet and does not communicate well with our large currently in use libraries. 😞 https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/model-state-support-tabulated-parts-list/idc-p/11360616

Hi,

To fix this problem, try right clicking on Inventor on your Desktop. Select Properties>Compatibility>Change high DPI settings> tick the override high DPI scaling behaviour box> Choose system (enhanced).

Ensure you click apply and open, hopefully this will resolve issues.

You are a genius! I've been having this problem ever since I got my new laptop and have been racking my little brain for an answer to fix this and this worked perfectly!
