Design accelerator doesn't work

Hello,

I have got a problem with Design Accelerator. I tried searching this forum but found nothing regarding this problem. I'm currently trying to create spur gear, the calculation works but it won't generate teeth for the gear. I tried generate other things via Design Accelerator and they don't work either.

PS: Picture is in czech so I tried to translate it as good as I could.

Ondrej,

First off, Welcome!

Next, could you go into a bit more detail? What other items have failed in DA?

Have you attempted a very simple item in DA to see if it fails as well?

If you can, can you post a Screencast video so we can see the process you are using? If could very well be some step you are missing in this process.

I tried creating teeth for a spur gear (failed with the message above), than I tried creating a spring, a bearing and other things with DA and I have got the same message that calculation is alright but it can't create new document and model. I post two other picures: 1. gear without teeth 2. setting up the teeth in DA (after that I press OK and the error message pops up)

Does it work if you select Component rather that Feature?

No, same message appears. I tried creating entirely new spur gear but with the same result.

Hi Ondrej,

Did you happen to change the display precision in the template files? Open the Standard.iam and Standard.ipt and go to Tools -> Document Settings -> Units -> Display Precision. Is it set to longer than 5 decimal places? We do have a known issue here. Some Add-In workflows are impacted by the change in display precision. on 2017 and earlier, the display precision is limited to 5 decimal places. On 2018, up to 8 decimal places are allowed. This does not mean the actual data model or numerical values are more precise. The actual values remain unchanged. It only means that more decimal places are being shown to the user, while they were hidden from the users.

Another way to fix this is resetting the default template files. Go to Tools -> Application Options -> File -> Configure Default Templates -> select the desirable units -> Ok. You will get the default templates and they should work fine with Design Accelerator.

Many thanks!

Hello,

thanks for reply, I just uninstalled AI 2017 and installed version 2018 and it works now. Only thing that doesn't still work is when I select feature option instead of component. It doesn't show any errors and it generates it, because I can see it in the right panel, but it won't generate the teeth as visible object (visibility is turned on).

Hi Ondrej,

I thought you were already on 2018. Now you mentioned that you were on 2017, so my prior explanation does not apply to you. Why it failed in 2017 is a mystery to me.

You said it does not work for Feature option. I would like to understand the issue better. But, your description lacks a bit detail. Could you take snapshots or share the files you are working on?

Many thanks!

I'm trying to create a simple spur gear as an exercise for school. I have created the centre of the gear and now I'm trying to generate teeth around the largest perimeter. Thats all, on the picture below are the settings for the gear, and on the second you can see that the gear was generated but nothing is visible. I may missunderstand some features of Inventor because I'm a begginer so if thats the case than sorry.

Hi! I think Feature option fails because the diameter of the selected cylindrical face is too small to accommodate the number of teeth. This is why creating new components work. Make the cylinder bigger and it should work.

Many thanks!
