Derived sketches - copy sketch across to different plane

Hi all,

 

Is there a way to get a derived sketch going similar to the method in Solidworks? Where you can insert a derived sketch into a new plane inside the same part.

This is a hugely important feature, I need to do a lot of lofting with complicated rails, and I need to get the rails exactly the same across a few sides of the profile. These rails aren't arcs, they're usually splines. The parts are very organic so I can't use any form of duplicating body sections and combining them.

I know there is a copy paste feature for sketches across planes, but they lose relationships, so when I edit the first rail, it doesn't modify the rest.

 

If anyone has any solutions, please let me know.

Unfortunately this is an absolute must feature and a problem that I have been coming across more and more often. Many drawings simply cannot be incorporated into a block due to projected or reference geometry needed. It would also require countless hours of re-constraining to convert a complex existing sketch that was built around reference geometry in the block environment as hundreds of constraints are lost when a sketch is converted into a block. Not only this allows insertion of drawings on (any plane or surface parallel or not). it would also eliminate the problem of having to re-project an entire sketch since new geometry and even existing lines...etc that are extended or modified are never updated on a projected sketch where you must manually remove geometry with lost references (pink) and individually add (project) added geometry from the original sketch, or alternatively delete the entire sketch and reproject everything.

 

There are advantageous usage of blocks for small features like a thread profile to multiple regions, or dynamic simulation of moving parts where blocks can be moved but constrained to one another, but this should be absolutely implemented and I hope it is taken into serious consideration, thanks.

Hi! Unfortunately, the workflow is still not available at the moment. I am wondering if you could derive the body (solid or surface). Then project the geometry as needed. This workflow may help reduce the number of sketches to manage.
