Demote with welds

Is it possible to demote components with their welds to a sub assembly.

When you select the components and right click you can access the demote command.

When you add in a weld to that selection the demote command is on longer accessible.

Can someone just confirm that when you demote you have to go into the demoted sub assy and redo the welds.

That is what I have been doing, I am assuming there is no other way.

Why not place this assembly as a sub-assembly?

I dont think it is, but you can "Save copy as" and delete other parts...

Yes that is what I normally do and have done since day one.

However I am  fixing some old assemblies that have parts only and the sub assemblies haven't been done

as sub assemblies.

I am doing a demote without the welds so I dont lose the constraints.

I could do a save copy as, delete what I don't want and reinsert it, and reconstrain it, as some has just suggested,

but I think I would rather just demote without the welds and put the welds in again on the demoted sub assy file.

thanks everyone for your input

Valid Point.
Just in case: if the Parts position will likely never change you can ground them (or at least one of them) and use the Workflow you always have...
then place all the new Sub ASM's at the origin.

Hi Folks,

Lukas is right. Demoting/Promoting components along with their assembly features/weld beads is not supported. I see the use case but it could be technically challenging.

Many thanks!
