deleting parent drawing views

hi, when deleting a parent view in drawings, I do not get a prompt if I want to keep any of the dependents, it just automatically deletes. Is there a way, if I place a base view, make a section from the base view to then delete the base view and keep the section view?

As I understand it, Inventor creates a parent-child relationship between a base view and and projected or section views.   

It is possible to move the base view outside of the drawing boarder.  The view will not print on the sheet.

It quite possible that the prompt has been turned off from within APPLICATION OPTIONS - PROMPT tab, as to exactly which one it is I don't know.
