Default Format For New Sheets

Hi.

I am in the process of creating an inventor drawing template for use in my work. I have created a sheet format to be used, which includes a drawing border and title block. However, each time I press the 'New Sheet' button, a sheet is created which uses an old format, including a different title block. I know that it is possible for me to right click on the sheet format in the browser and click new sheet from there; that works fine. I want to be able to create a sheet with the new format when I press the button in the ribbon (or right click free space and select 'New Sheet').

Is there a way to do this?

Any help is appreciated, so thanks in advance.

Thanks,

Jonathan Fowler

Welcome to the forum ...

Did you save it to the template folder?

Or replace the default with it?

Michael,

Thanks for the response.

I am using Inventor 2013. I have never used the template folder before. Is this in the file tab of application options? If so, how could I use the folder to set the default format for new sheets?

(I also have not replaced the default with the new format.)

Thanks again,

Jonathan.

Save a copy of your default templates that come with the software.

Then save the new one over the default IDW ...then you'll have it as your default and you can make changes to it.

Also something for you to read

Michael,

I think there might be some confusion over what I am trying to do. (it is also possible that I am misinterpreting your response)

I am not trying to set my new drawing template as the default for new DRAWINGS.

Rather I am trying to set my new sheet format as the default for new SHEETS.

I hope I am not misunderstanding your response.

Thanks again,

Jonathan.

Yes, exactly.

I have a sheet format created and want all sheets which will be created (2, 3, 4...) to be made in that format.

As I say, I know it is possible to do this by right clicking the sheet format in the browser and selecting 'New Sheet', but I also want this to work when I press the 'New Sheet' button in the Inventor ribbon.

Thanks,

Jonathan.

Ok ...

If you're changing it in one that you're working on .... whatever you change won't just save back to the default one. You need to do the changes in that default one.

So if you start a new Idw and that ..it won't be there, however it should be in every additional sheet you add to the one you put it in..

Can you give a screenshot or screencast of what you're trying to do ..or the IPt/IDW to reference

Just checking, you are not still working in the brand new one?

You have saved the template and when you create a new drawing from that template the new sheet button gives you a format that no longer exists in the template, right?

Michael,

I have attached a copy of the IDW file.

I have just realised that I have made a mistake. The sheet format IS the new one on any created sheets.

What makes it look like it is the old version is that none of the images are caried on from the format.

I am however, still in a situation. I want the images in the sheet format to be included in any new sheets I create. They are visible if I create a sheet from the browser, but not if I create a sheet from the ribbon button.

Sorry about the confusion.

Ok ...so I know why for the logo ..

you have it as a sketch symbol in the sheet ..not in the Title block itself.

That's the reason .... if you want the quantity note and logo in it ...you'll need to copy the sketches into the titleblock and save it ...that should fix your the missing pictures

Sketched symbols and revision tables are not "really" part of the template. There was talk of changing that, I'm not sure how may releases back, but I still don't get them in 2015 from either the button or a right click. Are you getting them on the existing sheets when you create a new drawing from this template? (Maybe that's all they did it for.)

You should place your logo in the title block rather than as a sketched symbol.

Depending on what sort of functionality you hope to get out of Inventor's revision table, you might want to make your own. Since you do have a rev for "made the drawing" I guess you are always going to have one.

Have fun, drawing formats can be an adventure.
