Default folder when saving files

When I save for the first time a .ipn or .idw file, I would like to use, as default folder, the same folder of the .iam or .ipt file referenced. Is there a way to set that up?

Hi!

If  youre working with a active project, and you have the assembly file saved in the project file's root folder, it will do that by default.

If not, you have to point the folder, at least for the first drawing file.

Hi Carlos, thank you for your prompt answer.

I work in a company with other twenty designers. We all use the same Vault Project, and in our root folder we have all our projects, divided in different folders by type of products, so we have a very ramified folders tree.

For this reason we usually have to save our file in subdirectories with long path, and when we create a new .ipn file it could be usefull if Inventor takes the path of the .iam file as default folder. Instead, every time we create a new file, Inventor takes the root directory as default folder the first time, and the last used folder the next times. It is not usefull, because we have to change folder every time. It could be more userfull if Inventor will suggest the same folder of the referenced file.

Well.. It doesn't work like that currently.. You have found out how it works and that behavior can't be changed AFAIK..

You can suggest your idea on the Inventor idea station for possible implementation in future versions.. (but don't start holding your breath now 🙂 )
