Cutout Part within Circular Constraint

Hi there. I'm trying to make a turbine fit within a certain circular radius, but I'm having a hard time getting AI to let me extrude a circle to cut the outer edges of the turbine blade.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

All you need is an outer circle larger than the existing blades, then select the territory between the circles as the profile for the Extrude/Cut operation.

But I'd suggest doing this operation in the part file, not in the assembly.

Hi @SBix26. Thanks for the response. You were totally right about just using two circles. However, as I'm doing this I'm still encountering a problem with the extrusion:

Create Extruded Feature: problems encountered while executing this command.

It's almost acting like the turbine isn't a solid. Any thoughts?

Also note that I cannot do this in the .ipt file because the turbine blade comes out as a mesh not a solid.

Thanks!

Hi there. I'm trying to cut the edges of a turbine so that it fits within a 15cm diameter circle. However, when I go to extrude between the two circles, I'm encountering an error:

Create Extruded Feature: problems encountered while executing this command.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,

Look at the image, it sounds like the cut extrusion is not touch any component yet, would you mind increase the distance value to a bigger one such as 100mm for another try?

Thanks!

Thanks for the response. However, I'm having the same problem.

Hi Sdale,

From the image, it seems none of components was automatically selected for cut extrusion which is incorrect, would you mind send me a sample data to take a closer investigation via xun.zhang@autodesk.com.

Thanks!

Hi Dale,

Thanks for sharing the data. I am sorry that all of propeller component are mesh data which has no volume here for cut extrusion. Mesh data is lack of operation compared with solid geometries.

So, the first step more like to create a solid before cut extrusion.

Hope it helps!

How should I go about doing that? I've tried using the Autodesk Mesh Enabler Environmental Add-In, but it only creates a surface, not a solid.

Thanks!

Hi! It looks like the blades are imported bodies and Inventor has trouble performing the Boolean operations. Please share the files here so forum experts can comment further.

Many thanks!

Hello,

Download meshmixer and try to convert to solid as below.

Hope it helps!

Thank you for the response Xun. I'm still having problems with doing a cut extrusion through the blade even once it's converted to a solid in MeshMixer. I've attached it here if that helps.

Thanks for the help!
