Cut part intersect using 3d sketch?

Hello all,

I have a part that I require to cut another intersecting part from. I have tried using the 'copy part' and sculpt / combine commands but they don't work well due to the fact one of the items is a mesh...

So I'm now in the situation where I have 2 overlapping parts, I can project the overlap line into a 3d sketch which seems like I am on the right track, how can I use this 3d sketch to cut one of the parts?

I'm currently looking to project the 3d sketch onto a 2d sketch and to then extrude symmetrically across the middle, but I can only achieve this by projecting geometry line by line... is there a better way?

It's been awhile since I've worked with surfaces but I believe you can make a boundary out of your 3D sketches using surfaces and cut away material that way. I can't remember if one can cut away physical extrusions with the surfaces or if you need a surface body. I do know, if one ahs a surface body and they make a 3D surface pass through the body, then you can cut away the parts they don't want. Not sure how well this will translate to what you're doing but hope it helps.

Hi! Another approach is to leverage Ruled Surface. Use the 3D Sketch to split the faces. Then create a Ruled Surface based on the split edges. The nice thing about Ruled Surface is that you can control the direction and the length of the surface.

Many thanks!
