Custom Colour Schemes - Inventor Application Options

I can't find a colour scheme that suites my aging eyes.  Currently (using the 'Presentation' theme) a model displays like this

2017-07-22_14-55-50.png

which is a pain in the eyes.  It would be nice if the theme produced something like this

170722-preferred.png

but the themes offered in AI2018 don't include this.

I have played with the 'Inventor Color Scheme Editor'' in the past but that's a bit risky, I believe.

Can I download other themes from somewhere?

Check your background settings. Changing background from 'Single color' to 'gradient' will get you closer to your prefered image.

I have 'gradient' set, but it is the colour of the model image I am concerned about.  I do get a change by setting the material away from generic but it is still not a clear image.

Change the color of the "Generic" to a color that suits your eyes and then save this file "Save as Template" and save the to "Standard". Every time you start a new part it will use the "Standard" with the altered color for "Generic".

Hi blair

I don't quite understand what you are saying.

I created an 'anything' IPT and it looks like this

Generic Original.png

Now what?  Do I use Inventor Color Scheme Editor to change the color?  Is that what you are saying?

I changed 'Work Feature' with the Editor

But it has no effect on Inventor (yet).  Perhaps it needs a reboot.

Then, what is it you want me to do with the file?

If you don't like the default color that Inventor uses for it's standard part generic material. Then create a new part, change the appearance of Generic material to a color that suits you and then save this new IPT file as Standard.ipt using the Save as Template option. The link below will show you how it's done.

Hi! I think I know what you are talking about. It looks a bit blurry. Besides changing appearance, you could also try changing the Lighting Style. Go to View -> change the default Lighting from Grey Room to Two Lights or Standard. Do you like it better? The main reason why Grey Room was chosen is because it offers better interpretation of legacy appearance styles.

Many thanks!

Thanks blair

That is an interesting screencast - although it doesn't work for me.  I have eMailed the author and I'll keep you posted on what we come up with.

I think I have finally found what I was looking for.

Firstly,  I found that I get a HUGE increase in available options if I use the drop-down menus at the top of the toolbar

2017-07-27_8-37-01.png
and select 'Autodesk Materials Library' and 'Autodesk Appearance Library' respectively.

I did that and by selecting the appearance 'LED - Yellow On' I get the effect shown below

Which is about what I would like.  I saved the IPT in which I made the change to a new name in the folder where I find my usual standard template (in my case Metric) and 'Bob is your proverbial Father's Brother' as they say here in the Antipodes.

The key was changing the libraries.
