Custom CC part reverting to original

Background:

We make large diameter pressure piping. For these pipe spools we regularly need threadolets - commonly 2"-NPT mating to pipes 24" and up. For this purpose, and to make assembly easier, we save the CC part as custom and increase the parameter for the mating trunk pipe to a suitable value. (Side note: these particular models are fairly fragile and often require extensive fixing when making this change. Grrr!)

This has begun happening in the last week or so:

On occasion we will change the nominal pipe size. This requires a change to the threadolet. Commonly, we will Save-As the threadolet to a new part file, make the modifications, and perform a Replace Component. Replacing the component now results in the part reverting to its original CC parameter values. Placing the part directly does not see this error occurring, nor does dragging and dropping the part from Windows Explorer. Performing a Rebuild-All does not fix it.

I find this behaviour to be both puzzling and disturbing. Why it has only just started happening is also a mystery as we have made no Windows or Inventor upgrades in the interim. I worry about such changes happening spontaneously upon opening of older assembly files, which would really mess up a lot of stuff and likely not be easily found.

The custom parts have been generated both by selecting Custom on the dialog at time of insertion from the Content Center and by opening the part directly from the Content Center (File/Open/Open from Content Center) and performing a Save-As into the project's workspace.

First question: what version of Inventor are you using?
