Current display driver stops responding

While working in Inventor 2016, my screen went black momentarily, then this dialog box came up. Do I need to be concerned? Do I need to adjust something?

I did save my documents, and I think I have had this happen before, but it's been a while.

I asked my IT, and they said another team member had a similar instance recently, and why don't I ask Autodesk?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know.  I have had my screen on rare occasions go black, then come back stating something to the effect that the display was lost, then found and has recovered.  Nothing was closed or lost.  In my case.  I would make sure your drivers are up to date with the latest SP's.

Thanks Scott.

Makes me think this is not too much out of the ordinary. I'll check the drivers.

I have this exact same issue. Absolutely no idea how to solve it. It has only started recently, but it now happens every single time I extrude.

@Anonymous,

If it makes you feel any better, I did update drivers, and seems to have disappeared.

Don't know if it was the drivers or what, but I haven't had any issues since then.

Appreciate it.

Unfortunately, I updated the drivers and reinstalled Inventor 2018 and I am still getting display driver crashes. I have over 300 hours in this install on this hardware and this problem just started. I am running an i7 8700k and a Nvidia 1080Ti. I know that this isn't a supported card, but I don't think that is the issue because of the amount of time I have already spent using it without issue. I think maybe there is a driver compatibility issue that has been introduced with either a recent Nvidia driver update or Autodesk Inventor update or both.

Frustrating, I know.

I'm not aware of any issues with configs you mentioned, but lets see if others might weigh in.

Hi Gregory,

The behavior does sound like hardware related. Your machine has a dedicated graphics card. But, it does not mean Windows is using it to run Inventor. Please share your hardware profile with us. Start Inventor and open a part. Go to Tools -> Application Options -> Hardware -> Diagnosis -> paste it to a text file or an email and send it to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

Many thanks!

Graphics driver log information:

1) My particular chipset auto-disables iGPU the moment a dedicated graphics card is installed, but I went ahead and manually chose PCI-E from the graphics management tab of my BIOS.

2) I manually added Autodesk Inventor to the Nvidia Control Panel then > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Autodesk Inventor > Power Management Mode > prefer maximum performance.

This seems to have corrected the issue for now. If it pops up again I will update.

Thank you all!
