Creo guy needs help with constarints

I'm coming from CREO & starting to learn inventor. For whatever reason I can not make sense of what the constraint tool is wanting from me. I don't know if theres a specific order to which to constrain items but i consistently get the "the assembly cannot be solved" prompt. Sometimes without having any previous constraints in place. I dont understand why i cant mate 2 surfaces & then align 2 axes? If i do the axis first, then it complains that way as well. I have googled tirelessly & apparently I'm the only user that has these problems. If there is a beginners guide to constraint rules for inventor , I'd love to see it.

I use both Creo and Inventor.

 

As you may have noticed, Inventor solves the constraints as a simultaneous set of equations.  Creo solves the constraints in a specific order.  This changes what you can do in each package.  I find Creo easier to troubleshoot, but Inventor offers more flexibility.

 

Inventor Axis-to-Axis constraints have three direction options (aligned, opposed, undirected).  I suspect that the default choice is conflicting with the Flush or Mate constraint.

What version of Inventor?

I suspect that you are having problems with how they have been umm... "changing the way in which the mate constraint defaults work" recently.. 

Pre 2019 it worked one way..

2019 to 2019.3 it worked another

2019.4 and on it works another..

 

It has caused confusion/anger/rage for quite a few with the outcome of zero actual improvements in the process IMO anyways.. As a long time user I have found the recent changes in 2020 to be more unclear than in the past.. 2019 also had some changes that threw some for a loop..

I will say if you are having problems you are probably over thinking it..

If you have an example assembly you can attach here (remember you need to zip up the iam and all ipt files as the iam does not include the parts in itself) we can take a look at what problems you may be having and offer better help

Sorry, I should've added the version originally. Its Inventor Professional 2019 64-bit Edition Build 278, Release: 2019.3

Update to 2019.4 and see if that helps.. How mates worked changed between 2019.3 and 2019.4

Hi Anthony,

 

I think I may have seen the behavior you are talking about. It looks as if the assembly locks up. Do you have a non-Master LOD active? If yes, activate Master:LOD -> Manage -> Rebuild All. Does it work now?

If not, please share an example here, so forum experts can take a look.
