Creating sketch lines that don't show on prints

I'm creating customized symbols for drawings.  I noticed that if the symbol is a simple text block, SI1, then the leader runs into the text (or just really close).

I tried to fix this by putting a border around the text and setting that border color to white.

This works great when printing from Inventor but not currently with AutoCad.  The obivous solution would be to make the bounding box to be "Sketch Only" but then the leader doesn't recognize it.  I have tried several ways of fixing this but haven't come up with a solution.  Can anyone help with this.

Hi! This can be controlled in Styles and Standard Editor -> Symbol -> Leader. I don't think you need to workaround like that. Please share the drawing file here so forum experts can take a look and comment further.

Many thanks!

There is no category in the Styles Library for symbols.  The Leader style doesn't have any options to control what I am asking for.  I attached the drawing file that I'm working on.

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the file! I can confirm that there is no control over the leader line behavior in this case. The line starts from the center of the text. The only way to trim off is to create a rectangle around the text. So the leader line will not start immediately from the text.

Thanks for the response.  I would like to go back to the original question.  Is there a way to create a line/box in a sketch that the leader recognizes but won't plot/print.

Hi

The fix is quite easy. Place a "Point" where you want the leader to terminate, dimension the point as needed.

You will also need to configure the point as a connection point grip, as well as the insertion point.

The only down side, is you need to create multiple symbols depending on its orientation to the view, (Top, Bottom, Left, Right etc.)

Hi! I don't think there is a way to prevent certain portion of a symbol from being printed. The only thing I find "sort of" control the leader break is to edit the symbol and edit the text. Simply add an empty line (return). It does create a bit more space. I guess you can tweak the text size and line spacing to get the desirable break space.

Many thanks!
