Creating Laser cutable parts from 3d models

I am wondering if there is an easy way within inventor to divde a 3d shape up into 2.5d segments to be cut out on a laser cutter like the design linked here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5730

What version of Inventor are you using?  How much training have you had in Inventor?  Are you a student?  What type of data (file type) can your laser machine except?   Have you created your 3d model already?

Thats called "nesting"

Inventor does not have it but there are programs out there that can do it for you.. 

 

google "sheet metal nesting free"

Or if you do this quite often then striker systems for Inventor and others are out there..
