Does anyone know how to make a triangular lattice pattern instead of a square as shown above? I have tried to create a tile with similar dimensions to the squares but the angles are off.

@Anonymous easiest thing to say is make the line in the middle a construction line.

If you ever see pink lines they are of Projected Geometry that has become disassociated/sick.

There are a few different practices for making sure boundaries are able to extrude/selectable.

Admittedly I don't do this, but one way is to turn on construction lines then Project Geometry for them to be reference. Then turn off construction lines and draw the outline you want for your extrusion. This is the most surefire way to visualize/guarantee a Closed Loop.

  • RMB on a line segment boundary > Close Loop is your friend.
  • Also RMB > Select Other... to find overlapping lines.

Once you get the hang of how the boundary system works with Projected Edges, it becomes more apparent when this method becomes useful.

Hope that helps!
