Creating a subassembly from parts and frame members

Hello everyone,

I have some trouble with creating a subassembly from different 'types' of parts. I created a steel framework with a 3D sketch and the 'insert frame' option. Then i added some footplates and purlin connections. Now I need to make 2D drawings from a couple unique sets of frame members and parts. Therefore I tried to create subassemblies, with which I can make drawings. But when I demote or promote the frame members, the contraints and joints disappear, making the subassembly useless.

The only option I see now is to create a 2D/3D drawing, and make all other parts invisible or delete them. But then I wouldn't be able to edit the steel structure anymore, without again creating new 2D/3D drawings.

Is any solutions available to make 2D drawings from multiple parts from an (still editable) 3D assembly?

Thanks in advance

Not entirely sure what you mean here, but if you just want to show certain frame members or parts on a drawing, look at model states and view representations with suppressions and visibility.

The best way I have found to use frames is to have a part with which is your skeleton essentially a master 3d sketch of the top level assembly (albeit I very rarely use a 3d sketch preferring surfaces and planes to sketch on) and make individual sub assemblies from the parent skeleton that way by changing the parent skeleton the frame members all update in the individual sub assemblies.

View representations can almost do the trick. I can get a 2D drawing from this with the parts I want, but the parts list still accounts for all the invisible parts.

Model states also almost do the trick, but it is not possible to suppress individual frame members.

Demoting the individual frame members does work however. I can demote the individual frame members, and add the other parts manually. This means I had to rebuild part of the structure, but it does work nicely.

One last step: filter the parts list by view representation--
