Creating a new folder in my Working Folder

Can anybody tell me why Inventor is crashing when I create a new Windows folder in my Working Folder during the Save As dialog?

I think it's because the folder doesn't exist within Inventors structure and outside of the Project File.

You could try creating the folder first using Windows Explorer and see if Inventor accepts it.

Hi Blair,

Indeed, the folder is new, but under the parent project folder and therefore inside the Project File. When I create the folder in Windows Explorer, there won't be a problem. Problem is that the need of the folder arises during the Save As dialog. Using the 'New Folder' button in this dialog would be the most logical way.

Hallo Jan,

I do it the same way, never had any problem.
What OS do you use and Inventor version?

Hi Jan,

Maybe the OS id doing something strange.
I work with Windows 10 and the same Inventor and Vault Basic 2017.0.1 (build 22.1.2.0) Without the problem you describe.

Hi Robert,

It seems to be a local problem. My colleague with the same PC, OS and Inventor won't have the problem. Thanks for your response. Perhaps I should try another user on my PC.

If you have another user log onto your machine and it works..  That's an indication your Inventor Windows Profile is corrupt.  At that point run the Inventor Reset Utility.  This utility is installed on your machine or you can get it from the link in my signature (but you must come back to the forum to see my signature and link).

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your reply! The tool is on my machine. I'll try another user to find out the problem is my Inventor profile.

Just quickly create a new user account on that machine as see if that's causing your problems.

Hello all,

I tried some options:

- another user on my machine: no problem

- me on my own machine with only a small part opened: no problem

- me on my own machine with a large assembly (1500 unique files, 12000 instances) opened: problem appears and Inventor crashes

Sounds like a bad User Profile. If you have an IT department there, get them to look at repairing your profile.

I've attached a guide on the procedure.

And did you try the "Inventor Reset Utility"? If so did that help?

Hello,

This morning I removed my Windows User Profile by the standard Windows procedure (System, Advanced Settings, User Profiles, etc.). I checked the register for the related keys and they were erased. Till now the problem is solved under the same conditions as it appears before!

Unfortunately I have/had to do all user settings for all my software. It cost a lot of time.

Regards, Jan
