Creating a Helical Gear

Hey everyone,

I'm working on creating a helical gear for work. The dimensions I have bee given are:

a diametral pitch of 1.062 in

Pressure Angle of 20 deg

Helix angle of 19 deg 45 min (Left handed)

12 Teeth

and a face width of 1.015 in

Also, I don't need the second gear with it so I am just focusing on the one gear I need with these parameters.

I have been trying but it keeps giving me errors in my calculations and then the gear looks real weird. I have been just watching videos and trying to click all sorts of different combinations until the calculate button doesn't give me an error but then it makes the gears huge and they are not even close to the diametral pitch that I entered.

Can anyone help me to figure out what to enter into the boxes so I can get the gear I am wanting?

Your inputs are not enough. Number of teeth for the matching gear and shaft angle is needed, because that's defining the cone angle.

And facewidth seems rather small, compared to diametral pitch.

2016, but I ended up figuring it out last night. I had diametral pitch and pitch diameter mixed up, after I switched those everything worked fine.

Yes, after I googled difference between diametral pitch and pitch diameter I saw the problem. Thanks for the response!

Hmm. Where did you place an entry for pitch diameter in this menu?

Look here, and see the differences between a 12 tooth gear versus a 19 tooth or 13 tooth partner. (I've changed the missing pitch diameter input field to module (module = pitch diameter / number of teeth)

I took the value from the pitch diameter shown in the gear one calculation results on the right hand side and placed that 11.299 value in for the diametral pitch in the common design tab. I had them mixed up so when I switched them it gave me the pitch diameter of 1.062 that I was looking for. It was just a miss communication between emails. After I switched that value it did not throw me any more errors and the gear came out to the the right size.
