Created spare part not possible to select a representation

Hello everyone,

I created a substitute (spare part) for an assembly. In this spare part I have the option to switch a component on and off.

I have no option to change this in the Design View. (Remains grayed out)

Strangely enough, I can change it in the browser

Is there a way to change this? It works in primary mode.

I'm creating library parts that I want to use effectively in large assemblies.

This example here is assembled in an assembly. With a file size of approximately 7 MB

Due to this substitute (replacement part), the file size is approximately 3 MB.

But I have the feeling that if I insert this phantom module (with the option of switching to a substitute) into a main module, it won't be that fast after all. But if I just insert the substitute file, everything is much faster!

Are there reasons for this?

Or other ways to implement this even more efficiently.

Greetings

Michael

Hi Michael,

This is an interesting issue. If possible, please share the files in zip with me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). It could be a limitation or an incomplete implementation. It should work consistently.

Regarding leveraging substitute for performance purpose, in general it is a good idea. However, there are caveats. It largely depends on the component geometry and the structure. For example, if there is an assembly with 10K identical boxes stacked together, creating a substitute without simplifying will create 10K bodies. The substitute part will be much bigger than the assembly and the box part. But if the 10K boxes are merged (or simplified) together to create a big box, it will be smaller. than the original assembly.

Many thanks!
