Create a 2nd part from an existing part

I need to create a cover for an existing part.

It is important that the cover match the profile and match the vent holes in the existing part.

I created the cover that I want but I cannot create a flat pattern. I do not know why.

I have tried to remake the part several times, and cannot seperate the old and the new part like I did in the attached file.

Hi

You can only create flat patterns for a single-body file. Derive solids into new parts to create flat patterns (Manage tab -> Make Components tool).

Someday soon (for as long as I have been at my current job) we will be updating our Inventor.

Please include pictures of what you are trying to do.

Hi!

Your idea is correct (bring some old references to create a new part), but there's not the proper way to do it.

I'm not discuss that now, just working with what you have in the moment.

As @kacper.suchomski , you cannot flat a multisolid sheet metal part, but, if you eliminate the initial solid, you can achieve your goal.

Check the part attached.

Tip:

Also, your sketches are very poor, which not help in this case. no constraints, lack of tangency, etc etc.
