Copy/paste section of sketch

I have part of a complicated sketch that I would like to duplicate and shrink down but I need both pieces.

B ---> B

I know I can make it a block and copy/paste but then I don't think I can edit them independently. Is there some way to do this?

Hopefully that makes a bit of sense if not I'll try to clarify more.

make them a sketch symbol

and you can scale them independently, rotate  them etc

Hi jbrhx4,

  • Create the sketch block, give it a name, tell it that you love it, and will always protect it
  • Place another instance of the sketch block
  • Right click on instance 2 and choose Explode
  • Abuse the geometry that used to be instance 2 of the block, as you see fit
    • delete stuff
    • add stuff
    • make a new block out of it if you want
    • rotate and scale this new block
  • Observe that instance 1 of block 1 remains at peace

In the future, look for opportunities to create simple sketches:

I hope this helps.

Okay that allows me to edit it. But is there a way to scale the copied
block and shrink it down?

Okay how do you actually scale the block though?

Hi jbrhx4,

I might have mislead you, by listing things in the order that I did. Actually, I just re-read what I wrote originally, and I just simply misstated it.  Smiley Embarassed

You'll want to create a new instance of the block, move it off to the side, explode it, then scale and rotate the loose geometry, and then create the new block, and then move/constrain it in place.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
