Coordinate system of 2D sketch

Hi i am entering propellor sections into various workplanes that i created to eventually create a loft feature between them. However because i created these work planes at certain angles i need to redefine my sketch coordinate system to get al the sections to line up nicely.

I selected the edit sketch coordinate system in my 2D sketch and alligned the x axis with the original X axis. However when i allign the Y axis with the original y axis the whole thing flips again. Basically i get my X and Y axis ligned up but my Y axis is pointing in the opposite direction. The X axis is fine. Is there a way to change this? I added 2 pictures i want my X axis as in the first picture and my Y axis as in the second but i do not get this result in any way.x axis.JPGy axis.JPG

Kind regards,

Laurens

Hi Laurens,

This is the way it works unfortunately. Inventor sketch coordinate (workplane) is determined based on the planar face it is created from. The coordinate can align to a linear edge, not necessarily one of the origin axes.

If you want consistent sketch coordinate orientation, you can create UCS and then create the sketch based on UCS XY plane.

Many thanks!

What then is the purpose of the "flip axis" option?

Hi Shawn,

"Flip Axis" allows you to flip it upside down.

Many thanks!
