Coordinate Axes/Planes/Degrees of Freedom not going away on parts in assembly

Yesterday, I saved my assembly and everything was okay and good.

Today, I opened it up and every single component in the assembly has its individual coordinate axes and coordinate planes visible as well as the degrees of freedom for the parts I had unconstrained.

Whatever I do I cannot remove them nor select them.

Plane glitch JPG.jpg

From what I saw, this was a glitch present in Inventor 2016 that got fixed in Update 1 but seeing as I have Inventor 2017, I would think that update is already built in to this version.

Any ideas?

That's the DOF visibilty issue.

What Build of Inventor 2017 do you use? You can find it as last entry at the question mark at Inventor's top line.

Looks like build 142.

So is the DOF Visibility Issue something that has already been solved?

There's 2017 SP1 (Build 196) available. If you're on subscription, you can access 2017 R2.

I have updated to the build 196 and the problem still persists. I restarted my computer after updating as well. Is it possible that the assembly file itself is still bugged from the previous version and that if I make a new one, and now that I have updated, the problem will not come back?

Hmm. Perhaps it helps, perhaps not. Try this in your main IAM:

- Select all components

- Right-click -> Component -> Demote to new Sub-Assy

- Close main IAM

- Open new Sub-Assy and look, if DOF symbols have gone

If yes, then delete main IAM and rename new Sub-Assy as main IAM. Take a beer ..

Smiley Wink If not, then it's time for crying and whining.

This problem can sometimes be traced to a single part in the assembly.  (I would suspect the tires.)

If you build a new assembly, does the problem appear with a certain part?

Does the DOF symbol show in the part files?

I made a new test assembly with one of each part from the original and the problem did not happen again. Also the problem does not happen in the individual part files.

Can you post your dataset here (or send it to me) so I can take a deeper look?

Thanks, Csaba
