Cool Orange Thread Modeler in IV2023, 2024 and 2025

So for anyone interested, I have the Cool Orange "Thread Modeler" add-on running in Inventor: 2023, 2024, and 2025, in my opinion, it produces better and more geo-accurate threads than Fusion 360 does.

I don't know why Autodesk doesn't just make this work natively...?

@chris I remember seeing recently that Autodesk has taken an integrated thread modeler idea under advisement. I'm sure @johnsonshiue can put his finger on it for us.

@ethan_howardMMXXV  watch the video that @Alexander_Chernikov  shared, the plugin needs to be in whatever version of Inventor you are using, addon location (example):

chris_0-1714136775501.png

the number you are changing it to for:

2023: 27 or 28 (I think)

2024: 29

2025: 31

I can see why Autodesk is not too thrilled to jump on the Orange thread modeler bandwagon. It doesn't play well with features like c'sinks and cast surfaces. It would work well with flat plates and c'bores though. I could probably get it to work but would require additional features so it's not worth it to me.

@ethan_howardMMXXV Once you run the thread modeler you have to "combine" the solids, otherwise, any cutting, chamfering, etc is only on the first solid, (unless you choose both)

We use the Thread Modeler for our render threads and section views and it works great for us. We do not use it for production work or finished drawings. (Apologies, I couldn't find the high res image for the yellow gun handle cut-away)

We are new to using Cool Orange Thread Modeler. How did you cut the slot through the threads. I can't cut through at all.

Thanks

After creating the thread, combine the new body the threadmodeler made with your original body. Then create a sketch for a slotted hole and extrude cut.

On topic, while the threadmodeler plugin works in 99% of the cases, it does create problems in regards to annotation in drawings.

How are you able to use it in Inventor 2023 and upwards if Thread Modeler is not compatible with those Inventor versions??

You just have to make a very small modification in a config file.

There is a YouTube video of it. Can make it work in any version of Inventor.
