Contour Flange on Polygons

Hi, I am having trouble making contour flanges on polygons. I can reliably make any design I want with a rectangular face, but I can't get the contour flange feature to work with polygons. I have tried to find reading material about it, but I can't find the answer. I am self-taught so I have a lot of gaps in my knowledge, and I can't find the resource I need to solve this issue.

Hi Jacob -

I believe the problem is that the sketch with the contour profile needs to be perpendicular to the edge you want to attach to.

I used the "Normal to Curve at Point" workplane creation option and selected the midpoint of the edge and the edge to create my sketch plane, then projected the curves from your sketch.

The foundation of your part starts with Sketch1.

You should always fully define Sketch1.

For this sketch it would make logical sense to have a Coincident constraint between the center of the polygon and the Origin CenterPoint.  In general - every Sketch1 should be constrained to the Origin in some way.

There should also be either a Horizontal or a Vertical constraint on one of the lines.

And make a logical choice for dimensioning.  What can you easily measure in the real world.

Thank you both very much for the help. I am going about learning this program the wrong way. I learn by trying things, but it is leaving large gaps in my knowledge.
