Is it possible to have a family in multiple categories? Ideally without duplicating the family

Hi @mgrenier2

Families cannot move Categories as they are categorized at time of publishing. If you need it to show up in a different category you would need to republish and or reauthor. Can you explain in more detail the use case of the same family in multiple categories?

I guess it would not apply to a lot of parts, but I would see the schedule pipes be available in 2 categoriesCapture d’écran (89).png

Hello!  I am assuming this is because you would like to be able to use the same profile in both Tube & Pipe and Frame Generator?  If so, these components are Authored in completely different ways, and so cannot be used this way.  You would need to make a copy of the Family, open (As Custom) a member of the Family and re-Author it for either Frame Gen or T&P.  Then save the new part, edit the Copied Family, and Replace Family Template.

So, if you want to use a frame profile in T&P (probably a lot more difficult), you would remove the Frame Gen authoring, and re-Author as T&P.  Vice versa if you are trying to use a T&P profile in FG (probably a higher degree of success in my opinion).

Good luck... did that make any sense? 😂

Yes it does, I haven't really had time to learn how to use T&P yet. But it does makes sense one of them is for structure/framing and the other is for piping. Thanks
