Hello Everyone,

I am new in CAD designing. Can anyone please explain what is "COMPOSITE MODEL" ? What is it's use? I have a composite model, it seems to be a single body. Can i also separate different part from this composite model of an assembly.

Thank you

Composite is a collection of surfaces munched together into a single entity.  There are 2 common ways people end up with composite surfaces:

Importing:  If you are importing something that has errors, Inventor will "salvage" what it can despite the errors, and instead of a solid body, you end up with a collection of surfaces that likely have gaps or other bad geometry.  When this happens, the import dialog has options about how to "salvage" what it can, composite surfaces are one of those options.  Ultimately, if you need that body as a solid, you could try importing using the stitch option, otherwise right click the body and click repair body.  Or there are other things you could try, in which case, attached the source file and your attempt here.

Deriving or Copying:  When deriving parts or assemblies, or copying geometry, you also have the option to create composite surfaces.

Hi! There is a workflow to separate the bodies from the Composite. But, it can be a bit tedious. Try this.

1) Right-click on the Composite node -> Repair Bodies.

2) Transfer Surfaces -> select Body mode -> pick a body -> check "Create New Composite" -> Ok.

The body will be sent to a new Composite.

3) Stitch each Composite as a solid body individually.

A similar workflow is also available in Construction Environment (enabled at Tools -> App Options -> Part) by separating bodies into groups.

Many thanks!
