Is there a way to create a pattern in an assembly and specify that you want to use 'distance' instead of 'spacing'. You can do this within a part file, so not sure why the dialog box is not the same?

I think you can achieve it by using some formulas.
You see - the module for parts and the module for assemblies were designed by different people. That's why the interface for seemingly similar action is different in its functionality. The user of Inventor has to be aware of it. And stay alerted.

You may do it with two other way since, distance option might not avauilable for components pattern.

1. By adding distance and divided by the number of qty which eventually termed as spacing, but you may enter the distance itself.

2. Another would be to make a sketch pattern.

I would also look for any other way to do this from any experts here.

Depending on your Design Intent - it might make logical sense to create your Component Pattern in >>this way<<.
