Commands are slow/delayed after updating to Inventor 2024

Hi!

After updating Inventor from 2020 to 2024 I'm experiencing slow response when doing commands such as "measure" or "constraints".

For example when I want to measure something in an assembly, I right click and pick "measure" (or just click M on the keyboard) it takes up to 20-30 seconds before the measure window pops up and I can start measuring. When the window first appears I can measure as normal. The same goes for commands such as constraints, free rotate etc.
It also seems that the delay mostly applies to the initial measure/command, and that consecutive commands (in the same assembly) has no delays.
However when opening another assembly or another assembly-level, the delay is back.

The response is also initially slow when switching between assembly-levels or to part-level. When I have first gone from assembly-level to an individual part once, doing the same with other parts there is no delay.

- Settings are migrated from 2020

- Checking parts/assemblies/drawings in and out from Vault 2024 works just fine

- Inventor 2020 is uninstalled
- During the delay Inventor has a "not responding" status until the command window pops up

Hi! All Inventor releases can co-exist. There is no need to uninstall it. A few things to try.

1) Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated. Please make sure Inventor.exe runs on the dedicated graphics card, not the embedded graphics card.

2) Go to Windows display settings and select the recommended resolution and scale.

3) Right-click on Inventor 2024 desktop icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Change High DPI settings -> check both boxes.

Many thanks!

Thanks for your reply!

I have tried all three steps you listed, but the problem remains.

However it seems to be a bit more arbitrary when the problem/hang-up occurs, than I initially described, but it still seems the different commands are what triggers the problem.

When it hangs, as descibed in my first post, there is no (Not Responding)-message in the title bar in Inventor, but the window is frozen (can't click any buttons, zoom, pan etc)

In the task manager - Processes-colum, Autodesk Inventor Professional 2024 has status "Not Responding"

In the Details-column, Inventor.exe has status "Not Responding"

Both statuses goes back to "Running" as soon as Inventor un-freezes and the command window pops-up in Inventor

Inventor has not completely crashed during this problem, only the 30sec hang-ups.

I tried to uninstall/reinstall Inventor, but the situation is the same.

Do you have any further suggestions?

Did you tired to disable add-ins maybe something not right here?
Have had similar "not responding" problem when upgraded from 2018 to 2020, clean uninstall solved the problem. https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Perform-a-clean-un...

@DanDelta-p
Are you using a 3DConnexion Device? If yes, run Calibrate from the system tray.

What if you unplug (turn it off - take out of the “equation “).

Does behavior return to normal?

Did you try disable all Add-ins as suggested by @autodesk-MM and see if there was a difference?

I tried disabling/unloading all Add-Ins in the Add-In Manager, but no difference.

I also tried turning off the SpaceMouse and unplugging the USB-bluetooth, but no difference.
However I did get a system tray notification from 3DConnexion that said something like "The task manager is running with elevated permissions". I checked in the task manager and all 3DConnexion-lines and Inventor.exe in the Details-tab  have status "No" in the elevated column. As far as I understand these should match, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Snapshot of the notification and From the task manager attached

Yes, I tried unloading this Add-In.

I also did a clean uninstall, as suggested by @autodesk-MM. I removed all Autodesk products and reinstalled Inventor and Vault. Everything seems OK and is working as normal, except for the same problem that is still there.

After re-installing Inventor and Vault, I got a pop up-window (see attached screendump). I googled this and this was the top result: https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Getting-a-System-R...

As recommended I tried running the Inventor Reset Utility as the issues described seemed somewhat similar to my problem, but the problem remains.

I have now contacted the support department of my supplier of Autodesk products and they have made a case.

Still waiting for them to contact me.

Hi! This could be related to the display or the network. Are you accessing the files you get from Vault locally? Or you are accessing through the network? How much system RAM and graphics RAM do you have? Please make sure Inventor.exe runs on the dedicated graphics card, not the embedded one.

Many thanks!

Hi!

I checked, it's running on the dedicated graphics card. Computer specs are not the issue either.

I'm accessing files from Vault on the network. I check them out from Vault, saving everything locally while working

and checking everything in again when I'm done.
I found a way to work around the prorblem; The problem is there when I'm working on the Vault-project file. If I change to the default project file and then back to the Vault-project file, it seems to eliminate the problem. I have to repeat this switching of project files when restarting the computer.

I still don't know what causes the problem, but it seems obvious it's related to Vault. I have notified the support about this. I'll keep you posted if the support finds a proper solution to this.

Hi! This could be related to the App Home. Maybe you can try turning off the App Home and see if it works better (Tools -> App Options -> General -> uncheck "Show Home on startup." Restart Inventor.

Many thanks!

I think I found the problem after getting a tip from a collegue:

The Design Data folder was stored on a network server. I copied this and stored it locally on my computer. Then I changed the path to the Design Data-folder to this location in Folder Options in the Project file.

This solved the hang up-problem immediately.
