CHANGING COLORS FOR HIGHLIGHTING PART IN ASSEMBLY

Inventor 2016 was recently installed on my computer.  When I hover over a part in an assembly, it turns red.  In Inventor 2015 it turned blue.  I prefer the old color, but cannot figure out how to change from red to blue.  Can you help?

Hello and Welcome!

To chnage this you need to change the color scheme.  Go to Application Options, Color tab.  The highlight colors are different with different schemes, scroll through until you find the one you are looking for.

OK. I was using winter day. I changed to winter night, and I got white
prehighlight and blue when selected. But the highlight was not transparent
as it was with the red highlight with winter day. I prefer using winter day
as I think the objects show up better to my old tired eyes. From what you
are saying, it sounds like my choices are very limited. I can have winter
day with red highlights that are transparent, or I can have winter night
with white highlights that are not transparent. Is this correct?

I cannot believe that this is the case. Inventor does all kinds of
marvelous stuff, but I have very limited choices for highlighting colors?

For highlighting choices, yes, you are limited to these few schemes.  I'm not sure what you mean by the hiughlight being transparent though.  The only difference I noted was the color.

There was a Color Scheme Editor that someone had done a while back that allowed for far more customization than is allowed through the standard Inventor menu interface. I don't think that it would work for current versions and even if it's available anymore, I think it was version specific.

That little utility is called Color Scheme Editor but you need to check if it's available in 2016.

I didn't think so either, I've never dug into the colors, if they are Windows Registry or XML driven. If it's XML driven, installing something such as Microsofts "XML NotePad" would make it easy to edit the settings.

From what I know the color schemes are stored in the windows registry and the unofficial InventorColorSchemeEditor.exe that is in the SDK should work for any version. You just have to make sure you select the correct version if you have multiple versions installed.

I've been using the same color scheme editor I pulled from from the 2013 SDK with 2014/2015 with no issues.
