Changing Assembly types of existing files?

We've decided to add more iproperty fields to our default Asssembly template. However, we think we want different Assembly templates (with different custom iproperty fields) for different kinds of assemblies.

Is there a way to migrate a file to a different template?

No but you can copy properties from one to others using design assistant.. (and maybe vault but I don't use it)

I think the OP is talking about the other way around.. PUSH iproperties in a template to already completed assemblies..

If I have an existing assembly created with an existing assembly template, can I change the template under which that existing assembly is defined?

Like if I had used Inventor (in).iam and I want it to now be under Inventor (mm).iam or _Whatever Template_(in).iam, hypothetically.

When you start a new file with a template, it uses whatever is in the template. After that the file is independent from the template.
