I have an iPart with multiple members, which I would like to have each a different color (appearance). Is that possible? I have Inventor 2016. Thank you

In the iPart table, create a new entry called color or something on the Other tab.  Right mouse click on that column in the table and select Appearance.  Then fill in the cell values as the correct appearance name.

Thank you for your response.

How do I create the new entry in the iPart table? I try right clicking, and also can't find any "New" buttons or ICON's, so I don't know where to start. Sorry

I apologize. I clicked on the folder, not the tab. My mistake. With your help, I have been able to accomplish what I requested. Thank you

Can you use this to change a specific body color if you have a multi-body part?

Mark,

Could you explain how you to add the appearances to the color column?

Hi Todd,

Mark is no longer with us. I am answering on behalf of him. To add a Color column, go to Other tab and add a property. Once the column is added, right-click on the header -> check "Appearance Column."

Many thanks!

I got that far with Mark's instructions, but I can seem to get this column to provide any value???

I tried enter colors - no good
I tried entering appearance names - no good

I switch to Solidworks, and used configurations - GREAT!

Hi Todd,

Yes, SWX is awesome. Everything is great! Simply bug-free and no workarounds required.

To add appearance to the table, you need to type in the exact appearance style name, like "Violet." The style has to be available in the active Appearance Library. Please share an example if it still does not work.

Many thanks!

Hi Todd,

Many thanks for sharing the part! The issue here is that Extrusion1 feature also has appearance override. The priority of appearance override is Face -> Feature -> Body -> Whole Part. Feature appearance overrides the Whole Part appearance. Simply right-click on the feature -> Properties -> Feature Appearance -> As Body. Then it will work.

Hi Todd,

Sorry, I forgot to mention that you also need to clear out the Body color override. This iPart has multiple color overrides starting from feature, body, and then the whole part. You need to clear out feature and body color overrides. Right-click on the solid body -> Properties -> Appearance Override -> As Part.

Another way to do it is to use the Clear Override button (the color wheel with a checkmark) to blow away all color overrides.

Many thanks!

Is it possible for us to have the same thing for an individual feature?

Hi, are you asking about changing the color of a specific feature in the ipart table?  I'm not sure this is doable without some customization.  What version of Inventor are you using?

Hi! I believe you need to add Finish features to the part. Then configure the Finish feature accordingly. Please share an example that you are working on. The forum experts can help take a look.

Many thanks!
