Change Part Color of Composite???

Often when we import STEP purchased items from vendors they come in as composite surfaces.  Our preferred visual display setting for model edges is "Use Part Color" but when we do this to a composite object such as this it usually ends up being orange.

We can change the model color to something else but the edges remain orange.  We can change this to one color and set it to black or something but that ends up looking a little cartoon-ish.

Since the edge style displays orange when we have it set to use part color which must mean the "part color" is orange.  How can we change the part color or change the edge color of a composite model such as this?  And we looked around and found some things about changing to construction environment and stitching and things like that but with some of the complex models we have it just hangs Inventor indefinitely.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Scott,

This can be changed. But, it is a bit elusive on where to make the change. The Composite and Surface are considered Construction Geometry like Work Plane. So, they share the same color setting.

Go to Tools -> App Options -> Colors -> Custom Scheme -> find the active scheme -> Graphics Element -> Other -> Work Plane.

Many thanks!

Can you Attach the file here?

Strip Override color (appearance).

You can set to whatever color you want.

Thought that was it but didn't change it.  I ended up changing everything that looked the least bit like orange and the edges were still orange.

Just noticed when I changed the color scheme to Deep Blue, the edges are orange.  When I change it to Forest, the edges are bright yellow, when I change it to High Contrast they are white, Light Theme makes them dim yellow, Millennium, Presentation, Winter Night are bright yellow while Sky, Winter Day and Wonderland are orange.

Hi Scott,

Inventor coloring workflow is as colorful as the available colors. What I mentioned earlier still holds true. The difference is that you actually already added color override to the Composite body. To clear it, click on the color wheel button with a check mark at the top -> remove all overrides. It will restore the "system" color, which is the same as the Work Plane.

So, either way will work. If you just want the default coloring, you can make the change I suggested. Or, apply the color like you already did.

Many thanks!
