Change color of Highlighting on assembly view

When I mouse over parts of an assembly drawing the part changes color as designed to isolate that component. The highlight color is an extremly bright orange, and on small parts I loose contrast in viewing the assembly. I would like to change the highlight color to a lighter shade but can't figure out where to acess this color setting.

Thanks in advance;

Not directly within Inventor. You should be able to access considerably more color settings using the ColorSchemeEditor from within the SDK tools. You should be able to find the folder in the followed path:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2014\SDK

You will then need to run the "usertools.msi" program. This will create a new folder structure "UserTools" within the SDK folder. Navigate to the following Directory:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2014\SDK\UserTools\ColorSchemeEditor\Bin

Run the "InventorColorSchemeEditor.exe" and select the Scheme you with to modify. Look under the "Selection" section.

Hello;

Thanks for the help. I ran the executable file, but now where do I go to find the "color change" section?

Run the "InventorColorSchemeEditor.exe" and select the Scheme you with to modify. Look under the "Selection" section.

How do I get to the "selection" section for the highlighting effect? (Not terribly computer savvy)

Sincerely; Randy

OK, I am able to open the Color Scheme Editor page, but can't change any colors or values. I do see the highlights line, has an empty box next to it, and all other selections. Do I need to do something to make these boxes populate?

Select the Item you wish to change, the slider in the upper RH corner will affect the intensity/transparency of the color. If you RMB on the color square you can then change the color.

Hello Blair;

My color editor screen seems inactive or won't populate. Attached is a screen shot. Am I doing something wrong in setting this up?

Thanks; Randy

Check in the Upper LH Box that you are on the correct/latest Inventor version, you are showing "18"

Check that you also have adequate permissions to edit the Windows Registry file. Requires Administrative levels.

Thanks Blair;

1) Where do I find the Registry version information on my Inventor 2014? Can I type it into the field, the drop down only shows  registry version 18.0

2) This is my own local laptop, running a student licience version of Inventor 2014. How can I be sure I have administrator rights to get this feature to work properly.

Thanks for all your help, you guys are great!

Sincerely; Randy

Looks like it's getting the correct version for IV2014. I'm on IV2016 and it's listing "RegistryVersion20.0".

Windows 7 should be: Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Change your account type

I'm at home running a Mac on BootCamp with Windows 8.1 so it should be close to the same. My work office machine is a Win7 unit.

Hello Blair;

1) So it appears that I have administrator credentials, and I am not being prompted for any passwords to work in registry files.

2) I think, as you say, the version of the color editor is correct at version 18.0

3) The editor still is completly blank, or unpopulated. Unlike the video link you showed me that had active color tabs and such.

     There is an import/export tab in tools. I wonder if the data has to be first imported into the color manager, at least the first time for it to populate?

      If so, I am not sure where to dirrect the color manager to inport the settings from in the folder tree? Any Ideas? see attached

I sure wish I could get it working as good as your screencast.

Thanjs for all the help with this!

Sincerely; Randy

It reads the data from the Windows Registry upon the program starting. Possibly something could be wrong with your User Account/Profile. Create a new User Account with Administrative Privileges and try running the program in that account.

If that solves the problem, it's not that difficult to repair your account. I can send you the procedure.

Hello Again Blair;

So I went and re started both Inventor, and my computer thinking that I should have done that before, still no population of the Color Editor.

I am still wondering if it needs to do an "import" from the "backup tab" on the color scheme editor. If so I don't know which file to direct the import utility to when prompted.

I feel like this is something simple or that I don't understand how to configure.

I appear to be the Administrator in the registry, although I was not prompted for a password to run the Color Scheme Editor as far as I can remember. see attached clip.

Attached are several screen shots of my search in my files, maybe these will be usefull?

I do have "Team Viewer 9" installed, not sure if you could look through these files remotly at some point?

Thanks again for the assistance, would love to get this working. The current highlight color is really powrerfull!

I have some more scfreen shots but looks like 3 is the max per contact.

Did you look in the Control Panel for your account type? There is no need to import anything into the Color Scheme Editor. As shown in the link/video.

Hello Blair;

I uploaded Screencast and am trying it for the first time. Pretty cool, hope it works properly.

I walked through the path to the color monitor. Can you see where I might be having a problem?

I have administrator rights on this machine I bielieve, see the attachment.

I may be missing something real simple, remember I am a 58 year old, semi novice on computers, so you can't take anything for granted as I can make simple mistakes, but I think I have done this all properly.

Thanks again for all the help in getting this problem solved!

Sincerely; Randy

That is bizarre, I have no idea why it's not pulling in the Registry settings for Inventor. It should be straigh forward as in my last ScreenCast. Possible try resetting the Windows Registry for Inventor.

If you are not comfortable with doing this it's understandable. I have attached a PDF file which has the steps to reset the Registry for Inventor.

Hello Blair;

You are a genius!!!

System is fixed and appears to be functioning perfectly now. As soon as I made the (A-B) renames and re opened Inventor all was perfect. The highlighting color scheme was changed to a nice useable color even before I opened the color scheme editor. I will do some more drawing and check things out but all looks good. (The old highlight color was a bold, bright orange that was hard to look at, not sure where it even came from)

A couple of end notes and I don't know if this is important to my system, but if you refer to the Re name notes you sent me the following are what transpired;

ITEM #3 Changed as shown to the .org

ITEM #4 Did no find at path shown in regedit

ITEM #5 Changed as shown to the .org

ITEM #7 Changed as shown to the .org

ITEM #8 Did not find this file in my system

If this is not a problem with you then I think we are good to go!

Thanks again for hanging in with me and working this to a fix, you guys are great, and its nice to know that the product has this resource for support!

Sincerely; Randy

This happened to me after I tried bringing in a corrupt step file and had to "End Task" on inventor a couple times. All of my defaults reset in inventor and the only one I couldn't fix was the highlight color. This took care of that but I also had to change my other defaults back again as well. I made the registry changes in the PDF but not the folder changes since I couldn't find the right ones. It still worked fine.

Thank you.
