Centerlines?

How come when I try to put in A SIMPLE FREAKIN' centerline cross on the end
of a slot, only 2/3's of it shows up? Tell me how I am missing the big
picture please. I've only been drafting since 1983, so I maybe missing
something....

The centerline command does not extend the line portion if there is no
arc. Hold your cursor over the centermark and grab the green grip and
pull it to desired location.

Yes, but there is an arc!

BTW, thanks for contributing,

When you hover over the arc, does the whole thing highlight or just half of
it. Sometimes, if there is an anomaly with the geometry what looks like an
arc is composed of multiple arc sections. In that case the leaders will
only extend for the arc section selected. Hope that helps.

I just made some sketches to see what is going on.
If the line on the left is not tangent with the circle and touches the circle ABOVE the point of tangency then no center line there, as in your example. If the the vertical line on the left still not tangent BUT it contacts the circle BELOW the tangency point, then you get your center line on the left. I just tried a bunch of alternatives with and without tangency.

When drawing slots that last tangency always has to be added manually.... at least I have
never been able to get it to do all 4 just by sketching.

Dave,

Would it be possible for you to post the drawing and its model(s) to
autodesk.inventor.customer-files? Also, were you using the manual Center
Mark command or the Automated Centerlines command? Which service pack for
R6 is installed?

Thank you for your help!

Diane, How about a little info on what Autodesk is doing on the centerline
command. You sent me one of these too.

It should not be necessary to coax centerlines into being.

Jim - I responded to the issue you brought up in the thread titled
"Centermarks". Again, I apologize for taking so long to get back to you.

Dave - I can explain what is supposed to happen, but without the models and
drawing, I can only guess at what is happening in this specific instance.
And unfortunately, my guess' are no better nor worse than the replies you
have already received. I cannot emphasis enough the importance of the
models and drawings that the users provide. They are invaluable in deducing
any problems with the software. Plus they show us how the software is being
used, sometimes in ways we did not expect.

The legs of the center mark are supposed to be drawn only if they intersect
the circular edge. So, for a full circle, you get four legs. However, if a
wedge of the "pie" were missing at say 3 o'clock, then the right horizontal
leg would be missing. In this case, only a short, little leg is drawn.

My guess (which is the same as someone else suggested) is that the circular
edge does not intersect the left horzontal leg of the center mark.

There are two ways I can think of to change this:

1. You can extend the exiting leg. When you select the center mark, you
should see four green dots at the ends of the center mark legs. Grab the
left horzontal one and extend it to the desired point.

2. You might want to look at the geometry of the slot. Is the arc
tangential to the line geometry? If not, making it tangential might help.

I hope this helps!
