Hi All

The attached file has a sketch imported from Autocad. This represents the side view of a tank. The issue is when i try to revolve/extrude it to make a solid model, I the closed aread cannot be selected. I tried to project geometry in sketch ,It didint work as well.

Can some one explain What is wrong in my approach. Please find both attached files Inventor and Autocad 2018

Thanks Basil

Hi! Your case is quite similar to the following thread recently discussed.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/insert-dwg-in-sketch-can-t-extrude-no-errors-according...

Please take a look at the experts' suggestions. The dwg file contains small unconstrained segments. You need to either import it again by turning on the option to create end-to-end point constraints. Or, you can use Sketch Doctor to repair the sketch. Or, you simply import it as DWG Underlay and then project it to a sketch.

Many thanks!

Q1. What are your intended units? How tall should the part be?

Q2. Do you want a Revolve or do you want an Extrude? (Pick one.)

My intented unit in mm

The height of the tank will be 700mm

I thought of using half of this sktech to revolve and make the model.

The original AutoCAD file is rubbish.

I would use only as reference in recreating proper sketch.

Why would you say its rubbish ?  just wanted to learn from you. I received it from the original manufacturers of Scania parts.
