Hello,

I have a sub-assembly with its parts set to reference and I cannot change to normal. The parts are shown as read only.

Thanks.

@ggtoutounji

Are these components, considered as a library component per your Inventor project file?

Or could they be content center components?

If you open the part file, Tools/Document settings/BOM, is it sent to REFERENCE there (and can it be changed)?

Hi Mark,

They are neither library nor content center files. It seems I am able to change them now from reference. Not sure why though. Thanks for the help.

Hi! If possible, please share an example here. The behavior does not sound right to me.

Many thanks!

I had a similar issue where the parts disappeared from the Structured BOM View after assigning them as reference.

In the BOM Dialog window > Model Data Tab
You can add the column "BOM Structure" and modify the parts in the Model Data Tab to assign Normal, Phantom, Reference, etc. and they will repopulate on the Structured parts tab.

Hi! Just to add a note here, changing BOM structure in the BOM table is equivalent to changing it in the component Doc Settings -> BOM Structure. This change will become the "Default" BOM structure property when the component is placed in an assembly.

Within a given assembly, the BOM structure of a component instance can be toggled between "Default" (from above) or Reference. This option allows you to control the number of instances of a given component. For example, the component has 8 instances and the QTY shows 8. But, you just want 5. You can select three of them and set their instance-level BOM structure to Reference.

Many thanks!
