Can't project geometry

Be glad if anyone could suggest what might be the problem here... refer to the attached screen shot. I've created a sketch on the face of the extrusion and i'm trying to project the geometry of the vertical bracket inside the extrusion so I can match the holes on the outside for fixings to go right thru the assembly... but it keeps throwing up this dialog box! Grrr...

There were a number of changes to some of the parts in this assembly including some being deleted and redrawn and i'm assuming it's something to do with this??? Any suggestions would be appreciated... thanks.

Error message doesn't seem too cryptic...

Is it adaptive in another assembly?

Marked as adaptive at all?

Check the iproperties for that part in the assembly... go to occurrence tab.. is adaptive checked?

Thanks for your prompt reply...

No adaptive isn't checked (see attached). I checked this in the sub assembly and the main assembly...

Checked the bracket and the extrusion also...

Hi! I think you are probably new to Inventor adaptive workflow. In Inventor, each part can only have one geometric definition. So when it is adaptive within one assembly, it cannot be adaptive in another assembly. This is because allowing one part to be adaptive in to places will lead to conflict.

For your case, I assume the part you want it to be adaptive in this assembly, is already adaptive in another assembly. If you don't want it to be adaptive in the other assembly, you can simply open the part by itself and go to Tools -> Document Setting -> Modeling -> uncheck "Adaptively Used in Assembly." After that, you should be able to project geometry from another part within this assembly.

If you want to keep its adaptivity in another assembly, I suggest you use Copy Component workflow and make a copy of this part. And, replace it with the newly copied part. In the copied part, you will also need to uncheck the Adaptive option.

Many thanks!

Thank you...
