I'm designing an exhaust for a 2 stroke dirtbike and I created the design in fusion (don't know why, but converted components to ipt, shouldn't be a problem?). I am trying to create a flat pattern for fabrication but Inventor refuses to do so, even though I have ripped the cone and I used thicken to create them and changed the sheet metal rule etc. (thickness is 0,75mm). Also for some parts (atleast 4 and 5) doing the rip crashes Inventor.

Should I recreate the pipe in Inventor or is there a way to fix this?
I have inserted the assembly and separate parts as a zip-file. Component 2 is the cone that is causing flat pattern trouble and component 4 is doing the crashing (not the only one btw). Component 3 is an example of a working flat pattern.

Can you File>Export and then Attach the original *.f3d file here - I suspect the geometry was not modeled correctly in Fusion.
If you had Inventor 2020, you could use the Unwrap, but I question the quality of the original geometry.
I'm away from my office and Inventor. I suspect that you have an issue with the edges of your cone not being uniform thickness or having a taper/bevel edge. It might be easier to create this piece from scratch with a simple sheet-metal part. Use two work planes for the height of your cone with a circle on each surface. Loft a surface between them and use the thicken command to create your part, then convert to sheet-metal. Make sure that you have set the sheet-metal styles to the correct thickness. Then use the Rip to create a gap seam and the part will unfold.

I should really start to migrate over to just using Inventor, shouldn't I?
I just upgraded to 2020. I don't know exactly what it was but now I get the flat patterns from component 4 and 5. Might have been that I also switched the rip direction, because the face on the component was split somehow.
Anyway I'll just use the unwrap if I don't get the flat pattern.
