BOM QTY feet - inches

I am trying to create a drawing with a BOM containing 2 items, a length of pipe, and a plug. I would like the plug qty of 1 and the pipe to be the length, showing up as X'-Y" in feet and inches. I plan to create several different assemblies like this, so would like to have it automatically update when I change the length. I have set the qty of the pipe part as length in feet, but it shows up as a decimal by default, as shown in the first attached image. I can format the column to force the unit to be fraction and feet, but that makes the plug qty show up as 1" instead of 1, as shown in the second image. The unit cannot even be overwritten in this case. Is there any way to make Item 2 show up as feet and inches without messing up Item 1?

Hi! I think this depends on the Base QTY for the item 1. Open item 1's file and go to Tools -> Doc Settings -> BOM. What is the Base QTY unit? Change it to Each.

Many thanks!

The plugs Base Quantity is 1 Each.

I think the 1" comes from when I override the QTY column on the drawing, by using "Format Column" and Applying Units Formatting to change the Unit Type to Length. This achieves the desired result for the 2nd item but overrides the entire column, making Item 1's Base Unit irrelevant. At least that is my understanding of the issue.

Attached are the Format Column settings I am using unsuccessfully,

and the Base QTY of the plug settings
