Bom export, problem with thumbnails

Hi

I have problem with Bom export. Exported BOM thumbnails won't scale correctly in Excel. We are using Inventor 2019, with latest updates and Win10. Bom export works fine 3 out of 4 workstations. What could be causing this? See attachment

Solved it. It was because of Excel settings and using multiple monitors

Can you please show how you fixed it. I am trying to export BOM for Assembly with 200 parts in it and Thumbnails are all  over the place in cells.

Thanks

Atinder

Sorry my excel is in Finnish, but I try to translate these in english. Under excel settings - general - there should be something that is called User interface settings or something like that. And there you should be able to select optimize for compatibility. This solved it for me.

I tried both of the excel settings, and the thumbnails still do not size correctly. Are there other Inventor/Excel settings to try?

I wish I could say the same. I can get them to resize based on column width, but not row height. This issue arose after the 2021 upgrade.

Thx anyway.

Hi Folks,

We do have a defect on this. Something is wrong. I don't think it was caused by 2021.1 update. The same behavior can be reproduced on 2021 RTM. We got inconsistent reports. Some users report that changing certain settings can help. But, some report otherwise.

Try this and see if it works better (it may not). Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment variables -> create "UseLibXL" and set it to "False" (don't use 1 or 0).

After that, does it work better?

Many thanks!

User variable or system?

Hi! Either should be fine. One applies to you as a user. The other one applies to all users on the system.

Many thanks!

Sorry to report that this did not work for me.

An Excel fix was given by Keith Doran of Hagerman:

Select one of the images, the press CTRL and Shift and then press A. it should select all the thumbs, then reset them using the Format Shape panel.

Thanks Keith!

Has there been any development on this? I am still having to manually resize the thumbnails.

Hi! If my memory serves right, this should have been fixed on 2021.2 update. Have you installed it?

Many thanks!

I am using 2021.2. I generated a BOM earlier today, and the thumbnails do not resize.

Hi! There is a bit book-keeping issue here. The particular issue was as INVGEN-42441. The latest status shows it has been fixed but it is not clear which build or release the fix is available. I am checking with the project team.

Many thanks!

Hi @ankurGCK9S,

Do you mind elaborating what exact issue is? The original issue INVGEN-42441 has been resolved as of 2020.4, 2021.3 and 2022. Yours may not be the same as the original issue. I would like to understand it better.

Hi @atinderghara,

Please reattach the image showing the setting. I am also interested in what Excel setting helps change the behavior.

Many thanks!

Hi!
Unfortunately I can report that the issue does not appear to be entirely solved.

I am having exactly the same issue reported in the original post, which is visible in this image:

xlsThumbnails.png

Thumbnails are scaled to the cell width, but overcome the cell height.

We are currently experiencing this issue on 1 workstation out of 4. Apparently the issue is NOT user specific: a different user on the same workstation exports xls files with the same problem.

The environment is Inventor 2021.3 on Windows10 1903 and excel 2016.

We have tried all suggestions from this forum post, including the excel compatibility setting, but nothing appears to be helping.

We are ready to share any additional detail or information that might help to address this issue.

One thing that you can try, is (sorry my windows is also in finnish, if some tranlations aint correct) Right click on Inventor thumbnail, Properties, Compatibility tab, enable “Override High DPI scaling behavior” and set the Scaling Behavior to “System (Enhanced) or "System". I think this solved it for me in INV2021. I had to go to Change setting for all users...
