BIM Content RFA export failed - missing template

What template is Inventor looking for when dealing with BIM Content?

Revit Interoperability is installed and in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Interoperability 2024. Is there a setting in Inventor where to define the path?

From memory, the template is in the above mentioned location somewhere.

You are looking for an RTE for RVT export or RFT for RFA.

This is the file Inventor will use for all Revit exports.

In 2026 you can specify any template from any location for RVT export, but not for RFA.

Default Templates should be here (replace the year with your version):

RFA Export:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Interoperability <YEAR>\Family Templates

RVT Export:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Interoperability <YEAR>\Templates

As additional information, the templates exist on the computer. The issue lies in Inventor not finding them (as per the error message) for some reason and I am not sure where to check the options / paths to try to re-establish the correct path to it inside Inventor.

Same issue here.

My colleague and I both have 42 templates in the default Revit folder, but his .RFA export works while mine doesn't. How can I check the path to the default folder from Inventor, or could there be another issue causing the problem?

Is that 42 templates in the Revit directory? Inventor won't see these unless you use 2026 and explicitly choose them, it will only look in the above location for the default template.

We are currently using Inventor & Revit 2024.

Was talking about this folder what was mentioned previously:

"RFA Export:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Interoperability <YEAR>\Family Templates"

Maybe try overwriting your templates with the ones from your colleague (backup yours first)

If theirs work, then it should work for you. If not there's another issue.

What is not working with your export, are you also getting the error 'cant find template?'

Yeah, tried that. Didn't work.

Yes, error message is the same than in the original post (Cannot find template)

Hi @ken.kuusaluM2H92 and @MKo1234,

We have seen this issue from time to time due to a variety of reasons -- a common cause appears to be when the Revit.ini file is overwritten by some Revit or custom software.

Try the following workaround to specify the template path/location (as @SharkDesign stated this workaround should only be necessary for versions prior to Inventor 2026 where support for selecting templates was added).

Create the environment variable IRI_TEMPLATE_PATH_<XXXX> and set it to your template location, e.g..

IRI_TEMPLATE_PATH_2024=C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Interoperability 2024\Family Templates

Does it work for you?

Thanks!

-Rena
