Hi!

I believe the better Inventor files viewer, is the Inventor itself.

You can install Inventor and, if you don't have a license, it can work as a viewer if you use the "read-only mode" icon to start it.

Hi,

thanks for the reply guys. This is probably what we will do. It would be good if there was a smaller program simply for viewing though, Inventor takes up a lot space on a computer when you are simply wanting a viewer.

thanks,

John

Also, You can share the model in the cloud, and send the link for other people using COLLABORATE->Shared Views tool.

Other people can do some markups in the model, propose changes, etc etc, and you receive that feedback in inventor.

Test if it fits your needs.

thanks again.

Was I correct in saying that Design Review no longer works with ipt and iam files?

It is still listed on the Autodesk Viewers page:

https://www.autodesk.co.uk/viewers

And from that page it would be appear to be best choice as it opens all files?

thanks again,

John

Design review is a tool used for 2D viewer.

You also have the old "Inventor Viewer", but it's almost so heavy as the Inventor itself, you  cant do almost anything with that but only viewing (no measuring, no parts visibility on/off, no drawings, etc)

Hi! A few clarifying points. Autodesk Design Review can view 2D and 3D data. The 2D or 3D data needs to be exported as DWF/DWFx.

The traditional Inventor View is quite light. The total install is about 600MB. It can view iam, ipt, and idw files. No measurement is allowed.

Many thanks!

Hi,

thanks for the reply.

I would suggest that the website for viewers should be updated (https://www.autodesk.co.uk/viewers). It states that Autodesk design review can open ipt and iam files:

Hi! Yes, the page is wrong. ipt and iam files cannot be viewed directly in Autodesk Design Review.

Many thanks!
