Batch replace hatch patterns

How can I select multiple hatched elements in a section a replace the hatch pattern.

Either type of hatch or direction.

I wish hatches would follow the long direction.

What determines the angle of the hatch?

I can have two identical elements that are the same material and placed next to each other and the hatch is placed at different angles or uses different hatch patterns

You can always right-click > Edit Hatch Style, to replace with a different one. But the angle differences are needed between different parts to visually identify them as separate.

You can also edit the Hatch style to pick a default angle and pattern, and even tie those to specific materials:

Hi! On top of what Gabriel mentioned, there is a setting in the Drawing Styles and Standards to dictate the angular variations between the same hatch pattern. Please take a look at the paragraph titled "Set Default Rotation Angles for Hatch Patterns in Section Views" on following page.

I guess what I'm looking for is a easy way to replace a hatched elements that were hatched incorrectly.

Work flow

Choose anew hatch and then choose the area that you want to replace the hatch

Or choose multiple elements to re hatch

Avoid having to reopen each area and select a new hatch new angle color etc

Set properties 1st

And then select all the elements you need to replace

I Have set up all the hatching properties.

And I also chose a default hatch but it doesn't seem to be saving the default

  in my dwg template

Hi Kirk,

I am not sure if this will work. There is a way to push library styles and standards to the same named styles and standards in selected idw/dwg files (Batch Update Styles tool in SDK). If possible, please share the files here or with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I can try and see if the Batch Update Styles can help alter the existing hatches.

Many thanks!

I’m creating cabinets and other millwork models.

it’s confusing to see a plywood hatch not going in the same direction as the part.

Same with metal hatches

What drives the angle. It switch’s throughout the drawing.

It’s very time consuming to edit the hatches.

Hi! The hatch angle can vary based on preset values. Go to Manage -> Styles and Standards -> Styles Editor -> select the active standard -> look at the right-side panel -> View Preferences -> Preset Values -> select Hatch Angle.

After you make the change, it will only apply to the specific idw/dwg file. You may want to make the change in your idw/dwg template files and also save the change back to Styles Library (if the standard exists in the style library).

Many thanks!
