Batch edit Hole notes?

I'd like to be able to batch edit the hole notes on my drawing style. So for instance, every hole in my chosen dimension style should have <QTYNOTE> by default. All my counterbores I'd like to have 'C'Bore' rather than the symbol, same for countersunk holes, 'C'Sink'  not the symbol. And all blind holes should have 'x DEEP' by default.

So the obvious question is where are these settings kept? Is there some master spreadsheet that I can just batch edit? I really can't believe you'd have to change them one by one, as there are 52 hole types. I've so far being doing them as I come across them, on an ad hoc basis but surely there is a more efficient way?

I tried the 'Apply to All' button under options but that had no effect.

If you mean 'How do I change the style for each hole type?', then far as I know, you have to go through the tedious process of changing every single hole type in the Styles db. It's a real PITA, but once done, you're good to go.

The way I did it was changed the Styles of the most used hole types in my drawing template file. If you have to make the changes to multiple templates, then Export that standard from your Style and then import it into your other drawings. And if I need to adjust any of the notes on the drawing that don't suit the Style, then I just do it 'on the fly' for the few that may need adjusting.

That's the only way I know how to do it out-of-the-box. Otherwise, you may consider an iLogic rule. You can ask in the Inventor Customization forum for help if you don't know how to 'code' using iLogic. I suck at it, so I'm not your guy for it.

Maybe someone else in here will be able to help you find it?

@Halleffect24  it looks like you have change the style locally. If you want the changes to be global right mouse click the dimension object and select save to style library. This will save the change to the standard in use.

Newly created drawings will take on these settings if you have already saved the changes to the template. If you haven't you will need to open your template and click update which will pull the latest standard to your template. You will see a dialog of the changes that will be carried out. Save the template.

For existing drawings you will need to also use the update button also as the local copy will always be out of sync with the standard unless you tell it otherwise. This allows for local changes to be made. If you want to always have the styles updated from the standard you will need an ilogic rule to click the update button on a save event or similar. This may affect other user custom changes but will drive consistency.

Thanks for your responses. If that is correct it's absolutely terrible! I'm going to investigate further but if this is the only way then I'll just have to accept it.

Maybe Johnson knows of an Excel or XML file buried somewhere in the Autodesk Inventor directory tree?

Hi! I think Alan is right. When you modify any local style and you would like to push the change to other drawings, you need to save the style change back to the Style Library.

Check out the "Batch Styles Update" tool in this article. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-t...

Many thanks!

Thanks all for the suggestions. I found that in reality there might be 52 hole types but when I actually went into the process of updating them, I only ever use about 15 of them at most. So it didn't take me as long as I thought.

I looked at editing the XML files directly but I was warned against it by a video tutorial I found on updating styles. I can live with that, and if by some chance I have to use a different hole type I can live with updating them as and when I encounter them.
