Auto Update File Locations

Just a follow up to my previous post:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/error-with-opening-sent-projects/m-p/11406794#M874132

I found some rough assemblies created by someone no longer at the company which, as far I can tell, have no associated project file and yet can be copy and pasted from one path into another no matter where on the computer and all file locations for the parts will automatically update to the new path. As they no longer in contact I have no way of asking them how these were created.

If someone can take a look at these files and try open it from different locations to see what I am talking about. Is there something obvious I am missing with these files as the ability to do this would make life much simpler for moving or sending entire project folders.

Cheers

I have copied your files into a folder that is linked to our project file & the assemblies open OK. What is the problem you are having?

These assemblies open fine no matter where they are located on the computer without the need to alter project files. In my previous post I linked, all my own assemblies cannot be copy and pasted into different locations, I see that others on the forum have faced this issue before and have used pack and go or vault. I am asking what seperates these assemblies from my own as, as far as I can tell these assemblies have been created no different from mines and have not been modified by pack and go or vault and can yet be simply copy and pasted around with the path loactions of the part files automatically updating.

Hi! I believe as long as the relative path is unchanged, Inventor can find them. The moment a file is placed in a different path or folder, Inventor will not be able to resolve it.

Many thanks!
