Attach BOM Item number to another view

Hello, friends, I've detailed an assembly drawing, put the part list and autoballon it. In another sheet I've started to detail each part of the assembly but I wasn't able to put a ballon attach to the item number of the part list? How can I do that?

Hi,

Have you put the priority to Part as below image ( Press Shift and Right mouse button). Then try to attach baloon again.

I tried it but seems nothing changed. Maybe you didn't understand what I want. Assuming that a specific part is the number 4 in the part list. Then in another sheet when I detail it I want to ballon it and the number 4 appears. In my actual situation when I ballon it appears the number 1. It seems Inventor don't recognize the link between the part and the part list.  See an exemple below:

Hi @ivanginato,

If I have understood your problem correctly, this item is item number 4 in next level up and you want to further break it down. If so, In the model assembly, Go to Bill of materials and change the structure to All level and use . as delimit. That will break down assembly into next level. So your assembly will show balloon as 4.1 and 4.2 and so on. When you do it in Model that way, parts list in idw will come with + button next to assembly number. Expand that +.

Please see attached pdf. for step by step guide. If this is not what you are after. Only other thing I can think of is doing Parts  only list.

Regards,

Yash

The Item Number value exists at the assembly level, not at the part level.  There is not a built-in workflow to attach an assembly-level item number to an object in a part-level view.

Three choices:

1. Change your balloons to pull the part number iprop, not the Item Number

2. Make view reps in your assembly to isolate each sub-component.  Add views to your drawing that use each view rep.  The balloon tool should pull the correct item number.

3. Show View Labels and add the Part Number iprop to the label.

Are the details the actual part files placed in the drawing, and not view reps of the assembly placed into the drawing?

If you are just placing the parts, you cannot associate the balloons from an assembly to the part level. We used to just add another balloon, but place the balloon next to the view label. Then we would drag the leader away from the assembly, and just make the arrow be "none", then if the parts list was renumbered, the balloons would update as well. Just another option.

After renumber:

Hi! I don't believe so. You can move or copy views to a different sheet. All the annotations will follow.

Many thanks!

[I know this just popped up because Autodesk is trying to clean up posts without a marked "solution" so who knows if anyone will use this.]

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/component-view-item-numbers-methods-and-suggestions/td...

has iLogic to create a design view for every part in an assembly

You can use that and then place a base view of the assembly using the design view so it only shows an individual part but it will still balloon as if it's in the assembly

There are other workarounds to get BOM numbers into parts but I think the best way is to just use an assembly view that only shows the one part. For small assemblies you can manually turn off the other parts in the browser (if the view is not set to be Associative on the Component tab of the Drawing View dialog).
