Assembly part list from part number to file name

Hi

I'm new in Inventor and making my first big project and I have drawn about 200 parts, copying earlier part (same sketch, only picked different feature).

Now after assembly I am making drawings and part list gives me  list with part number, not file name.

Is there easy way to change it to read file names, not part name? Or do I have to open all 200 and go to change it from iproperties?

In the future I know I should not copy paste files :S

I wish someone to help me asap.

Thank You for your answers 🙂

Hi! You can make that change on the BOM table in the assembly. Open the top-level assembly and go to BOM table. Right-click on the column header or click on the Column button -> add "File Name" property as a column. Then follow the page below to create an expression for Part Number referencing File Name.

Or, you simply copy the cells in "File Name" column and paste it to cells in "Part Number" column like you would do in Excel. Please note that all affected component files will need to be saved in order to persist the change.

Many thanks!

Hi Shiue!

Thank You for your try to help! Unfortunately I did not get it work...

It shows only one balloon because it remembers the "Part Number" (includes 3 parts with same product number).

It does not make it to show 3 balloons 😞

Please check attachment. In the drawing I changed part number column to file name column.

I really appreciate your will to help 🙂

Since you have three parts with the same part number, you will need to tell Inventor to ignore the duplicate part number so it will not merge the parts together in the BOM.  Take a look at the screencast for this process.  Below is the Part Number Merge control box shown in a screen capture.

Hi jhackney1972!

Thank You for your awesome help!

This saved a lot of my time. Your video was very good, nothing to ask more about this. Sometimes it is difficult to understand and navigate with only written advices, so this was great!
